Many years ago I was thinking of ideas on how to give back to the community with the service I love to do. I was fortunate enough to be raised by an amazing single mom who provided every opportunity I could have ever ask for…and then some. (I still don’t know how she did it). Every year, no matter what, we had a super fun birthday party planned…with lots of friends, family, balloons, and my fav’ ice cream cake.
So, one day it came to me….Birthday parties for children living in local shelters.
Each night there are 160,000 homeless children in the US. For many of these children, all they want is to live a “normal” life. The shelters have told us: “It is important to be able to go on living life as normally as possible for these kids. Celebrating holidays and birthdays and having carefree fun is one of these ways. It is really stressful to be a kid in a homeless shelter even if you are too young to really understand the implications.”
Birthday parties are a fun way we can make an impact in our community. This is how our firm came to create Cake, Candles, and Confetti, Inc. A grassroots charity that provides birthday parties for homeless children in the Capital Region of New York State. We wanted to combine our expertise for creating memorable occasions with our passion to serve in the community.
It’s taken many years to design the layout of how the charity would work, reaching out to shelters, volunteers, businesses to pair up with.
- We are looking for LOTS of volunteers, activity ideas (face painters, jugglers, etc…) donations, party supplies, businesses ….and the list goes on.
- We are also looking for ‘drop off locations’ throughout the community. We would love to set up secure boxes, which we would pick up from weekly, or as needed, for donations and supplies.
We will be updating the wish list and supply needs for each month.
